Hello MYHA families,
Welcome to a new year of hockey! I hope to have a great 2017-2018 season, and we are well on the way. There are a number of returning players as well as over 50 kids enrolled in the Learn to Skate Program.
Let me first introduce myself. My name is John Kinning and I am the current President of the Board of Directors for Marshfield Youth Hockey Association (MYHA). I have an 8U skater, this is our third year with the association, and my first as President.
For our new parents, please ask anyone you see questions you have, there is no stupid question. We have all been where you are and remember feeling everything you currently do as a new hockey family.
For our seasoned parents who have been with MYHA for a while, please make the little extra effort to make the new parents and kids feel welcome. Remember how you felt walking in that first time? Did you know anything? Well, that’s where they are now and I encourage a little extra effort to make them feel a part of our Hockey Family.
As a reminder about being a parent involved with youth sports. If you feel your child is not receiving adequate playing time and you want to address the coach, there is a mandatory 24 hour waiting period. The coach will entertain thoughtful and positive feedback after 24 hours. Please read the MYHA code of ethics and player/parent and the adult code of conduct located on our website. http://myha.pucksystems.com/page/show/388773--myha-coaches-page
A quick note about the practice and game schedule, the MYHA website arena schedule is the authority on times you should be to the rink. Unless otherwise stated by the coach those times will be correct. The link is: http://myha.pucksystems.com/page/show/252800-arena-schedule. You may also link this directly to your personal calendar by going to each team’s specific calendar and following the directions at the following link: http://myha.pucksystems.com/page/show/40316-teams
Each coach will hold a parent meeting within the first couple weeks of practice to answer any questions and provide further information. An email will be sent from your coach with this date, normally following an already scheduled practice time. Please bring questions you have to these meetings.
Please remember this association is run by volunteers, your time and effort will be mandatory to help the association run effectively. Some volunteer options are; on ice help, scheduling games, scheduling ice times, learning to run the Zamboni, penalty box, fundraising, team reps, score board operator, and many other things. Every family has the following Volunteer Hour Requirements:
All FIRST-YEAR families at ANY AGE LEVEL, are required to perform 12 volunteer hours during the season. These 12 hours will be divided into 8 Concession work hours, and 4 Game duty hours. All Volunteer hours however may be spent in Concessions though.
All Returning families are required to perform 25 hours (Single Skater) OR up to 40 hours (Multiple Skaters) per season of which 15 hours are in the concession stand.
Amy Dean Wojcik is our volunteer hour coordinator. Please feel free to contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or you may call or text at 715-630-9226 if you have questions regarding your volunteer hour requirements.
Fundraising is $170 per family for second year and older skaters. First year families are $60. Families may sell any combination of Blades Cards and/or Subway Cards. In addition, this year we will have a Marco’s Pizza Card to try out. All of the cards are $10 each. Any fundraising questions can be directed to:
SCRIP is another way you may do fundraising. Please use this link to learn more; http://myha.pucksystems.com/page/show/40453-scrip
Our big fundraiser will be a raffle. More information on that will be coming once we have finalized the details.
Again, thank you for helping make the Marshfield Area Youth Hockey Association the best it can be. Without you and the work you do we would not be here.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me
MYHA families, please pay close attention to the website calendar for frequent updates to the schedule. As the season roles on it will settle into a more manageable and predictable schedule. There will be frequent slight changes so please pay close attention.
Pee Wee Tryouts will be held on Oct. 17th and 19th.
Please be aware parents are NOT allowed to be in the rink during tryouts!
Hello hockey families. Just a reminder, registration is open. Please register as soon as possible.
In addition, we are happy to let you know we will be continuing the helping hands grant program this year. The program gives reduced registration fees to those that qualify. The program is completely confidential. If you are interested, please e-mail Jim Halvorsen, MYHA Treasurer, at email@example.com. Jim will work with you to get your last filed tax return to him in a confidential and secure manner. Based on the tax return he will evaluate the amount of discount based on a Board approved chart.
