In MYHA, the term 1st year skater signifies they are new to skating and have not skated hockey before.  1st year skaters although older than 8U (Squirt/Pee Wee) will start in 8U and remain there until they are deemed proficient to move to an older team.  For most skaters this is a short time.  If you have concerns, please talk to the 8U head coach.
